BUSCEMI
Since 1996, Dirk Swartenbroekx (Belgium) is making funky records under the name of Buscemi, one of his favorite actors. His style is deep. Difficult to categorise: you can hear elements of bossa, jazz, house, brazilian grooves, afrobeat, balkan, drum 'n bass en dub… Dancemusic with a warm feel is maybe the best description of the sound of Buscemi. Buscemi has released till now… 7 full solo-albums (Mocha Supremo, Our Girl in Havana, Camino Real, Retro Nuevo, In Situ, Nite People and Sol y Suave), 3 albums with Italian pianoplayer and composer Michel Bisceglia (Jazz Works – for the famous Blue Note label, Vertov Luomo con La Macchina da Presa and Nosferatu – both soundtracks for the silent movies) and one album with the Italian Singer Rocco Granata (Rocco Con Buscemi). Also there were 2 jazz-mixcompilations he did for Blue Note(Sidetracks Vol. 2 A Warm Blue Note Session and Sidetracks Vol. 4 Caliente), one mix album he did for Ministry Of Sound together with Kenny Dope Gonzalez of Masters At Work (Ritmo De Bacardi), one mix album with Squadra Bossa (Welcome to the Party) and two double album with remixes he did for artists worldwide (Late Nite Reworks Vol 1 and Late Nite Reworks Vol 2). Also there is a 3cd-compilation released in 2013 (Club Sodade) with Buscemi's greatest hits.
Buscemi's skill at turning his hand to basically anything is born out by the way he manages to combine a wide range of musical styles. Buscemi's groove is worldwide acknowledged and his fame as remixer too. The man produced already more then 50 mixes, he reworked tracks for bands and artists as Melanie Gardot, Madredeus, Hooverphonic and Calexico.
Dirk Swartenbroekx still explores his exquisite worldwide taste for beautiful girls (as seen on his record sleeves) and additional warm music. He is still much in demand as DJ (eclectic, warm and deep stylee! – afro, bossa, house, electro, balkan beats, dub, drum 'n bass, hits!…), but can also be booked as a complete live-band with his act Squadra Bossa. Succesfull dj- and live-gigs took place in more than 40 countries. (Canada, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Turkey, Switzerland, Romania, Malta, Italia, Ireland, Israel, VS, South-Africa, Denmark, Germany, England, Hungary, Finland, France, Mexico, Japan, China…)
