Biography Clout

As the disco era of the seventies rolled into the eighties Clout exploded onto the international pop music charts with sales exceeding 10 million.

Many thought Clout is a Dutch all girl band as they launched the infectious, unforgettable melody and catchy riffs of the re-worked ‘Righteous Brothers’ song ‘Substitute’.

They took Europe and much of the World by storm, claiming the number one slot in territory after territory like an obsessed conquering army, even reaching number 2 in the ridiculously competitive British charts! Little did many know, they were the vigorously opposed to, but victims nevertheless, of their home country South Africa’s ‘apartheid’ policies and so their rise to worldwide fame was a much greater feat than many ever realised.

Call it providence, call it luck, Clout were a delicious homemade dish containing all the right ingredients, honing their craft in the quiet suburbs of Johannesburg and playing the local clubs to become a practised polished unit - when suddenly, miraculously and without warning their first single saw the light of day at music Mecca ‘Midem’, where it was immediately snapped up by Carrere records and the rest is history....From these humble beginnings their fame grew and follow-up single ‘Save me’ followed. The girls were joined by the guys as the sound evolved and their on stage presence had to be augmented to take on the massive gigs that were to follow.

They shared international stages with the best of the best – The Police, Dire straits, Thin Lizzy and Supertramp - to name just a few. They were the proverbial David - Could they possibly have slain this Goliath? – 5 members from Johannesburg? Was it possible? Yes it was, they were different, they were special, they were a closely guarded secret, an incredulous piece of World pop history now Cindy, Ingi, Glenda, Gary and Alistair are back and celebrating their 40 years in the world of Rock and Roll in South Africa and Europe .

Be part of history in the making again– They were ...and the music still is - CLOUT!
